ForgedWorksElements

From our forge in Slovenia, near Lake Bled

Forged elements that are actually forged.

Every piece is heated in the fire and forged by hand on the anvil, from the first blow to the last.

Forged or bent?

Many elements sold as forged are bent cold from bar stock or pressed by machine. You can see the difference in five places.

Forged by hand
Bent by machine
The end
Forged by handDrawn out: tapered, rolled or flattened by the hammer.
Bent by machineA saw cut or pressed flat, as thick as the rest.
The cross-section
Forged by handChanges along the length, wherever the hammer worked.
Bent by machineThe same from end to end.
The surface
Forged by handHammer marks and scale, irregular.
Bent by machineSmooth like the rolled bar, or a pattern that repeats at even spacing.
The joint
Forged by handA collar driven on hot. Where we weld, the weld sits under the collar.
Bent by machineA visible weld seam or spot weld.
Piece by piece
Forged by handEvery piece differs slightly.
Bent by machineAll pieces identical.

In detail: how to tell real forged work

Elements in stock

The first elements are being prepared.

We are photographing and measuring our stock right now. If you are looking for something specific, write to us: we also forge to order.

Joined into ornaments

We join single elements into ornaments for railings, gates and grilles. The joints are collars we forge ourselves and drive on hot. Where a weld helps assembly, it disappears under the collar.

Questions

Are the elements really forged by hand?

Yes. Every piece is heated in the fire and forged on the anvil, from the first blow to the last. That is why sizes vary slightly from piece to piece.

What steel?

Structural steel S235JR or S275JR, bought in 6 m bars, the same as for our fences and railings. Cross-section and size are listed for every element.

Are they galvanized or painted?

Each element says so under Finish. Raw elements can be welded, drilled and ground, then galvanized or coated. For outdoor use we recommend what we do on our own fences: sandblasting, hot-dip galvanizing, powder coating.

What if an element is sold out?

It stays on the site. Ask for a quote for your quantity. If quantity and price work, we forge it again. The lead time comes with the quote.

What does shipping cost?

It depends on weight and country. We put shipping in the quote, before you pay. Pickup in Blejska Dobrava is possible on weekdays from 8:00 to 14:00.

Do you sell to businesses?

Yes. Every delivery comes with an invoice. Businesses in other EU countries with a valid VAT ID are invoiced without Slovenian VAT.

Do you forge to size?

Yes, if the quantity makes sense. Send a sketch with dimensions to inquiries@forged-works.com.

How are the ornaments joined?

With collars we cut, bend and drive on hot over the joint. Where a weld helps assembly, it disappears under the collar. There are no visible welds.
